The Temple of Athena Niké, located in the southern wing of the Propylaea, was built in 420 BC to commemorate the victory of the Greeks over the Persians in the Battle of Salamis .
The small temple erected with an Ionic style housed an image of Athena Niké, symbol of victory , whose wings were cut so that it would be impossible to leave Athens .
